The First National Team's Technical Manager, Juan Antonio Pizzi, stressed the importance of the first match of the green-shirted team in the 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, which will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, against North Korea at Rashid Stadium, for the first round of Group E.
"Tomorrow's match against North Korea is important for both teams. On a personal level, I am satisfied with the preparation level of the National Team, and we have a high confidence in the players," Pizzi said at the press conference.
"We have been waiting for Salman Al-Faraj to be completely ready, but unfortunately he did not pass the last medical test, so we had to exclude him, although we and the player tried together to ensure his readiness for the 2019 Asian Cup," he added.
He continued: "We have a great team at all levels: the technical, administrative and medical levels, and everyone seeks to provide work that benefits the National Team."
"Every match we play will be of equal importance. Now, we will deal with North Korean match as the most important match for me and the players, and we will do the same in the next match," he said.
"Salem has returned from the experience of playing in Spain with great benefit on the technical, physical and mental level as well. Playing in European leagues is very useful for the Asian player," he added.
Commenting on the National Team's results in the opening matches of the Asian Cup, Pizzi said: "Each championship is different from the other. I do not think about the National Team's participations in the previous editions. My focus is on the current edition," he said.
"We have come to this version with great passion and interest, especially in the opening match against North Korea. We have to prove ourselves by showing an outstanding level in the match," he said.
For his part, the green-shirted team's player Salem Al-Dossari said: "All the 2019 Asian Cup's teams are equal in performance and opportunities, and every Saudi player has the honor to represent the national slogan".
"Our focus now is on North Korean's match, and all the teams we face will be treated with equal attention and respect," he added
He continued: "The player on the bench is more important than the player on the pitch, and have promised each other to always act like one person."
