In his own name and on behalf of SWAFF's member association heads and representatives, Dr Adel Ezzat, President of Saudi Arabian Football Federation have expressed their thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Turki Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and Head of Saudi Olympic Nation Committee, for his keen interest in the idea of forming SWAFF from the very beginning, providing full support to make it a success and approving to host its headquarter in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia, thus deserving to be the patron and honorary president of the federation.
Ezzat pointed out that HE Al-Sheik's idea of forming SWAF stemmed from noble grand objectives, which made member associations embrace and interact with them, and move on forward to have them realized. He praised the role HE plays in promoting and improving sport in general, and football in particular, at local, regional and international levels.
"The idea was derived from His Excellency's aspiration to develop a link between Western and Southern Asia to help organize various competitions and events at team an club levels," he said. "It seeks out to increase member associations revenues through sponsorships and TV broadcasting rights, as well as promoting football activities and events and enhancing related infrastructure," he added.
Congratulating member nations on forming SWAFF with endorsement of both FIFA and AFC, Ezzat stated that member association heads and representatives agreed to hold SWAFF's General Assembly on August 12th in order to adopt SWAFF's statute, elect president and Executive Office's members and to appoint the Secretary General.
"With our accelerated steps and great ambitions for SWAFF, we hope this organization will enable us to play a significant role in improving and growing Asian football sport in line with the set objectives," he concluded.
