The National Team’s coach Juan Antonio Pizzi stressed that the team should play honorably in the opening game to reflect the preparations they conducted during the previous five preparation stages. Pizzi further added that the opening match against the hosts will undoubtedly be difficult.
At a press conference held at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Pizzi said: “I am personally very excited because my team will participate in the opening match of the biggest tournament ever. We are very excited to participate in this event. We will make all efforts to play at our best and make the Saudi people happy”.
Pizzi added: “We will compete very hard, we will have our own style and will leave our own mark, namely to be the best team. I like the offensive approach and that’s what we will do tomorrow. If we play our best and control the ball, we will achieve the results we hope for”.
On his part, the National Team Captain Osama Hawsawi praised the support received by the team during the previous stages from the sports leaders and said that the players can strongly feel this support and will play honorably accordingly.
Hawsawi added that the players are very happy to participate in the opening of the most important football event in the world, adding that this is the dream of every player. He further hoped that players will play honorably and achieve the aspirations of the Saudi people.
The Captain praised the previous preparation stages and the distinct levels shown by the team during the friendly matches. He added that this is the result of the confidence the players earned and the implementation of the Coach’s instructions.
“The friendly matches are not standards. There are certain calculations and pressures in official matches, especially the opener so we hope we demonstrate a special level”.
Hawsawi described the National Team as a hero, who participates in the World Cup for the fifth time and who has achieved 3 Asian titles and a number of other achievements and added that this is the strongest evidence of the development of Saudi football.
