The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) decided to include the 2008 national team as an additional
team in the under-17 Saudi Premier League, starting from the 2024-2025 sports season under the
supervision of the technical and administrative apparatus of the youth team.
This decision came in coordination with the clubs, the National Teams Administration, and the
Competitions and Technical Administrations, by borrowing players from their clubs, with the aim of
raising the rate of harmony between the players and benefiting from the age difference between those
born in 2007 and (2008) by increasing the players' contact with an older age group, so that the results of
their matches do not affect the points balance of the rest of the participating teams.
This project comes within the framework of developing the players of the national teams in the age
groups, and developing all technical, physical, fitness and tactical aspects, in a way that ensures
achieving the best possible results in the near future, as this initiative comes within a number of
initiatives launched by the technical management of the Saudi Federation to prepare the future
generation, including: "Holding the regional teams championship, sending the national team under 16
years to live in Spain for two seasons, intensifying regional training centers, and the initiative to support
age groups."
It is worth noting that the 2008 national team is awaiting a number of upcoming events, including the
West Asian Championship for 2008, the Under-17 Arab Cup, the 2025 Asian Cup Finals hosted by the
Kingdom, and the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
For his part, the technical director of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Nasser Larguet, thanked all
the clubs for their cooperation with the programs and plans of the technical management and allowing
their players to participate with the national team "born in 2008" in the Under-17 Saudi Premier League
competition for the next season, appreciating the clubs' keenness on the interests of Saudi football and
the constructive and continuous cooperation with the Saudi Federation.
Larguet added that this step is of great importance in preparing the national team players born in 2008
and qualifying them for upcoming regional and international competitions, ensuring the preparation of a
competitive generation in the coming years.
