
The Referees Committee concludes the first development course for VAR referees

Yesterday, Monday, the referees committee of the Saudi Football Federation concluded the work of the first development course for the referees of the video assistant technology “VAR” for the rulers of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman League for the first-class professional clubs.
The theoretical side of the course was held in Riyadh from June 26 to July 4, under the supervision of the international lecturer and advisor in the committee, Ali Al-Tarifi, with the participation of 73 referees.
And the city of Abha hosted the practical training, which was held from 5-12 July under the supervision of the head of the Referees Committee, the Swiss Manuel Navarro, with the participation of 54 referees and assistant referees.
During the theoretical side, the video assistant referee technology protocol was explained with a practical application for a specific number of hours for each referee, whether in the VAR room or the court judges after dividing the referees into 5 groups, and tests were conducted in law and video cases for the referees of the VAR technology, while during the side Practical Explanation of the protocol with a practical application with a specific number of hours for each referee, whether in the VAR room or the court referee.
The course aimed to identify the referees' preparations and their readiness and work to develop their performance, which is one of the committee's strategies announced for the 2019-2020 season.
For his part, the head of the Referees Committee, Swiss Manuel Navarro, stressed the committee’s endeavor to develop referees, benefit from and correct the observations of the last season, and the ability to create a young generation of referees to represent the Kingdom in foreign competitions and involve them in decisive matches in local competitions.
Navarro added that this comes out of the committee's keenness to continue the return of the Saudi government with full force to the international arena, keeping pace with the latest developments in the world of arbitration, and to achieve the sports renaissance witnessed by all sports sectors.
