
Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab complete their takeover to participate in the Women’s Premier League

Al-Ahli Club has officially completed its takeover of Meraas Jeddah, and Al-Shabab acquired Al-Asefa Club, two of the women’s Premier League clubs for the 2022-2023 season, to join the list of official sports clubs participating in the Women’s Premier League after Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad clubs.
On September 15, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation launched the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Premier League, with the participation of 8 teams: Al-Nassr (formerly Al-Mamlaka women’s team), Al-Hilal (formerly Al-Tahaddi women’s team), Al-Yamama, Al-Ittihad (formerly Nosour Jeddah team), Shoula Al-Sharqiya, Al-Asefa (currently Al-Shabab), Sama, and Meras (currently Al-Ahli), with the new season will start on October 13, with a home and away system, with a total of (56 matches).
SAFF also approved the establishment of the First Division League, with the participation of 17 teams, namely Al-Riyadh, Al-Hemma, Al-Nosour Al-Zahabiya, Ittihad Al-Nosour, Al-Taraji (formerly Al-Waha Women’s Team), Al-Muttahed, Felij, Al-Laith Al-Abyad, Al-Nawras, Sahm Al-Nisa’, Al-Amal, Okaz, Majd Jeddah, Nejma Jeddah, Tohamy, Fakhr Jeddah and Al-Ankaa, which will be distributed over three regions, with the league will start next November 11 with a home and away system (regional).
The first division league champion will be determined through the knockout stages of the quarter-finals, which are held between the qualifiers from the group stage, provided that the first division champion will be promoted to the Premier League in the next edition, to replace the last place holder of the Premier League, which will be relegated to the first division league.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has approved financial support for the Premier League clubs, as each team will receive 250,000 riyals, while each team in the first division league will receive a financial support of 50,000 riyals.
